I meant to post this before now. Here’s what I remember of the evening – off the top of my head (but hey, it’s not like we take minutes!)
Steve brought some of his fantastic birthday presents – a Chaos-Pad and a Korg Monotron(?) as well as the Atari-Punk Console he’s shown before. For a while the GCHQ (which here stands for Geek-Cluster Head-Quarters) sounded like the BBC Radiophonic Workshop – fantastic. I can see why Steve is fascinated by such things!
Elizabeth had some good show-and-tell stuff too: and 8″ diskette (I’ve got one of those too) and some amazing lego maxifigs – they’re an entirely different scale to the familiar minifigs and have jointed limbs. [I tried looking them up on the internet afterwards, and they're not easy to find details of. Lego-archeaology has nearly forgotten their existence entirely.]
Faith told us how weirdly Pete’s irises behave sometimes – with one getting big and one getting small. (I suspect we need to get Pete to sit a Turing Test – those damn robots are awfully sneaky sometimes.) And we also heard of the extreme measures necessary to put off TV-license authorities when you have no television.
Ben and Steve were also telling us about Android. And um, um…
That’s where my memory of the evening starts to falter… (Anyone else remember more?)
Incidentally, I hope we’ll have our next meeting in October, at Chapter.
Carey Hiles suggested a Monday, so he could come along sometime.
